この曲は米国の文学における近代に起こった潮流"Beat Generation"を代表する作家
"Jack Kerouac"に捧げられています。
資本主義経済の上で、英国、仏国、オランダなどのヨーロッパの移民によって築かれた
"Unitad States of America"の文化は
人間のあらゆる欲求であり欲望であり、享楽を満足させる自由を求める
"人々の日常"の積み重ねによって築かれてきたように思います。
"Beat Generation"はまさに米国らしい、そのような米国文化が形になっていく始まり
に位置していた動きだったように思います。
"Tom Waits"はまさにそのような時代を生き、音楽と詩で
人々の姿を表現してきたアーティストです。
このアルバムは小説のように
統一された世界観があり、
どの曲も素晴らしく、
全体がひとつのアートになっています。
”Holly Cole”は1983年から活動している
カナダのジャズシンガーです。
"The Heart Of Saturday Night"を
1995年のアルバム"Temptation"で
"Tom Waits"の世界観を壊さず
受け継いで表現しています。
というのもこのアルバム"Temptation"は全曲が"Tom Waits"の楽曲であり、
”Holly Cole”の解釈で非常に素晴らしいアルバム作品となっています。
